The plane went from 100 mph to zero over the width of a small country lane, flying over one spring-loaded barrier and coming to rest with its nose buried in another. Although the plane was registered, the pilot got away with a scratch.

Fast forward 10 years and I have another replica fighter. This one is slow, has unlimited headroom and is very forgiving and kind on descents (...so far!)
Powered by a 40 horsepower engine (Briggs and Stratton replacement), it flies at about 45 mph and doesn't go very far. It once took me 40 minutes to fly from Perth to Blairgowrie. That's 10 miles.
It's freezing there, but great fun to embrace the winter cold. Real World War I pilots 100 years ago must have had antifreeze in their veins.
I think this is done before the flight with a smile on my face… after 30 minutes of blowing wind my face is freezing.
